| OUR DISCUSSION GROUP - Tuesdays @ 7:30PM
Brothers Reaching Brothers In The Meantime’s Tuesday night discussion group is the foundation for the now diverse range of programming that currently exist under the In The Meantime Umbrella. Brothers Reaching Brothers meets every Tuesday at The Village Health Foundation Community Room, 4073-75 West Pico Boulevard , Los Angeles , California 90019 , (Secured Parking is Available at the Catch one.) This standing weekly group is the core of our programmatic operations. This 5 year old support group continues to provide a safe space for black men to come together and share in a common bond of black brotherhood and support for being SGL (Same gender Loving), gay and bisexual. Although many of the men who attend Brothers Reaching Brothers do not identify with any of the fore mentioned labels they are still encouraged to participate at their own level of comfort. One of the inherent features of this black men’s safe space is that no one is required to identify other than how they choose or do not choose to express themselves. It is through this weekly activity that relationships are forged, bonds developed and cultivated. This forum offers structured educational presentations on a range of topics to include HIV/AIDS education/ awareness, intimacy, relationships, race relations, homophobia, internalized homophobia, political, social, and economic concerns as well as an opportunity for local community leaders, clergy, activist, playwrights, film directors and authors of SGL related focused literature to come together and share their talents with the larger community. A regular Tuesday night book club, “Books In The Meantime” has risen out of this Tuesday night group and has connected an average of 25 men per Book club meeting to African American SGL literature and in many cases the actual author of the work. Another extension of this standing Tuesday night group is the PEACE TALKS Community Dialogue Series. It is during these special sessions that the larger diverse community is invited to participate in dialogues that address race relations, Gender identity, Homophobia and the church and other such issues that greatly impact our diverse Los Angeles Community. |
